In the general news, The Fed Chairwoman Yellen presented to congress and seemed to set the stage to raise interest rates this year, as the stock market hot all-time highs. The senate approved Loretta Lynch to be the new Attorney General. Lastly, actor Leonard Nimoy, better known as Spock from Star Trek, died.

In healthcare business news, Valeant (VRX) agreed to buy Salix (SLXP) for $10 Billion. Boston Scientific (BSX) acquired Endo’s (ENDP) American Medical Systems unit for their urology line, and JNJ is exploring the sale of the cardiology device unit Cordis.

On the data front, Biogen (BIIB) posted good data on Factor IX hemophilia drug Alprolix.

From the FDA, Novartis’ (NVS) drug Farydak to treat multiple myeloma was approved. Sanofi’s diabetes drug Toujeo was approved. Lastly, HeartWare (HTWR) recalled older LVAD controllers.
