The Weekly Summary

April 6th – April 12th                                 2020

In the general news, the world economy remained significantly shut down as governments followed the lead of the U.S. and ordered their populations to stay home. In the U.K., Prime Minister Boris Johnson was never treated early for his coronavirus and had to enter the ICU as symptoms worsened. He then recovered nicely after the U.S. provided crucial medications. In the U.S., total number of deaths and death rates outside of New York were low. The fearmongering estimates of 200,000 deaths were wrong and Anthony Fauci changed his tune without embarrassment. However, hot spots in New York remained on fire and out of control. The virulence of COVID-19 was on display as an entire aircraft carrier crew, almost, contracted the virus. Meanwhile, violated civil rights rose to the fore as Democrat governors tried to arrest worshippers on Easter. Finally, the federal government is already preparing trillions more in stimulus payments to small businesses.

On the data front, a prospective non-randomized trial of Gilead’s (GILD) remdesivir cured more than 60% of the near-death patients enrolled.
