At the recent cardiology trade show called the TCT, held in Washington, DC, 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said this, “The fee-for-service model, which made a lot of sense for a long time, may not make sense for physicians, for hospitals, or any other providers and may not make sense for patients and other payers,”.
Whether Hillary Clinton abolishes fee-for-service or not, the days of the blank check for hospitals are coming to an end. The ACA law and private industry are both pressuring the healthcare industry to fundamentally change the way that healthcare is delivered. Specialists, such as interventional cardiology, that are not anticipating these changes are ostriches with heads in the sand.
